Lira, Uganda; On Saturday, April 18, 2026, thousands of people gathered at Lango College in Lira City to celebrate the re-election of Uganda’s President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. The event attracted residents from across the Lango sub-region, marking what organizers described as a landslide victory for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate.
In the 2026 general elections, Museveni reportedly received overwhelming support from the Lango sub-region, with Lira City registering some of the highest vote totals. The celebrations at Lango College were therefore seen as both a political statement and a show of appreciation by local supporters.
The event featured cultural performances, music from local and national artists, and speeches from political leaders. Attendees expressed excitement and pride, waving NRM flags and chanting slogans in support of the president.
In his address, President Museveni thanked the people of Lango for their unity and support. He emphasized the importance of national cohesion and credited God for guiding the country. He also praised voters in the region for what he described as “wise and overwhelming support,” using the local phrase “leb Lango as Kwir ma ber” to commend their decision in the recent elections.
He further revealed that his plan to distribute free agricultural inputs including coffee and fruits plants to improve on household incomes.

The success of the event was attributed to a team of dedicated leaders and mobilizers who worked despite early disagreements and logistical challenges.
At the forefront was Joseph Ocwet, Director General of the External Security Organisation, who served as the chief organizer and invited the president . Ocwet highlighted the development achieved under Museveni’s leadership, citing improvements in infrastructure, peace, and security in the Lango region since the president first came to power.
