Alebtong District Kicks Off Rehabilitation of Classroom Blocks to Improve on Enrollment- The Luo Natives

Alebtong, Uganda : In abide to promote education in Alebtong District, the authorities have started rehbalitating two primary school namely, Aguredenge and Telela Primary Schools.
The initiative was officiated today by Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Lubwama Mathias, marking the start of refurbishment for four-classroom blocks at both schools.
The rehabilitation works, valued at UGX 98,954,219 for Aguredenge and UGX 109,415,665 for Telela, are being executed by Wangi General Enterprises (U) Limited. Completion is scheduled for May 30, 2025, though the contractor has pledged early delivery by May 15, 2025, in time for the second school term.
Key Stakeholders Attend the Launch
The launch event drew a wide array of district leaders and stakeholders, including District Chairman Hon. David Kennedy Odongo, District Vice Chairman, area councillors, Principal Assistant Secretary (PAS) Joy Christine Auma, District Education Officer (DEO) Moses Olwit Ocen, Assistant Engineering Officer Andrew Max Ogwok, sub-county leaders, and local community members.
Speaking at the event, DEO Moses Olwit Ocen emphasized the importance of the school feeding program, highlighting its role in improving academic performance and student attendance. “A well-fed child is better able to concentrate and succeed in school,” he stated.
Meanwhile, PAS Joy Christine Auma urged parents to ensure full school enrolment, expressing concern over children who remain out of school despite ongoing infrastructure investments. "It is disheartening to see children missing out when we are investing in these facilities. Parents and guardians must step up to ensure their children are enrolled,"
In his communication, District Chairman of Alebtong Hon. Odongo stressed the importance of community responsibility in maintaining the rehabilitated structures. “These classrooms are valuable community assets, and it is our duty to protect and preserve them for future generations,” he noted.
Meanwhile, Assistant Engineering Officer Andrew Max Ogwok outlined the project's technical scope, which includes:
Removal of old roofing, Casting of a ring beam, Construction of over-beam walls
,Roofing installation, Doors and windows installation. Floor work and final finishing
The community, enthusiastic about the development, pledged full cooperation with the contractor to ensure a smooth and successful implementation. Their commitment and sense of ownership are expected to play a key role in the project’s success.
This initiative underscores Alebtong District’s dedication to improving learning environments and ensuring that every child has access to quality education infrastructure. With collective efforts, the future of education in the district looks brighter than ever.
