Akiibua Stadium: Construction To Begin Before Christmas

Kampala, UG: The government of Uganda has assured people of Lango sub-region that the actual construction of Akiibua memorial studium based in Lira City East will start before Christmas.
This exciting news was delivered after the official signing of the contract between the government and an Egyptian construction company, SAMCO, at State House, Nakasero on Friday 6th, December, 2024.
The event was attended by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Museveni, along with representatives from SAMCO and the National Council of Sports.
State Minister of Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, confirmed the development via a tweet, stating, “Deal done! Yesterday, we signed the contract for the construction of Akii Bua Olympic Stadium at State House, Nakasero.”
The development demonstrates president Museveni’s effort to develop Lango and promote sporting talents.
This stadium will have 20,000 seaters for spectators, it will serve multiple purposes, hosting not only football matches but also a variety of other sporting events.
Ugandan government has allocated approximately $200 million (UGX 730 billion) in January for the construction of both the Akii Bua and Hoima stadiums.
The official ceremony was attended by Lira city woman mp , Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, gender minister Betty Amongi Akena and State Minister for sports, Peter Ogwang among others.
