Ugandan Speaker Among Honours Legacy of Fallen Lango cheif Yosam Odur In Her Condolences to Lango
Kampala, Uganda — The Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Anite Annet, alongside other government officials and community leaders, has praised the departed Lango Paramount Chief, H. E. Yosam Odur Ebii (RIP), as a great leader whose dedication to development and unity will be long remembered.
In her heartfelt condolences to the Lango community following the passing of H. E. Yosam Odur Ebii, the Speaker expressed her deep sorrow and admiration for the late leader. Through a statement shared on her Twitter account, she commended his leadership qualities and his unwavering commitment to the welfare of his people.
"On behalf of the Parliament of Uganda and myself, I extend heartfelt condolences to the family of Apap Yosam Odur, the people of Lango, and all his friends and relatives in the wake of his passing. As we mourn his loss, we also honour his significant contributions to the region's transformation agenda. We pay tribute to his dedication as a leader who genuinely cared for the well-being of his people. May the Lord grant his gentle soul eternal rest."
H. H Yosam Odur Ebii was a prominent and respected figure in the Lango sub-region, known for his advocacy for cultural preservation, peacebuilding, and efforts to foster socio-economic development within his kingdom. His leadership inspired many, and he was widely regarded as a unifying figure and a symbol of cultural pride for the Lango people.
The late chief died while battling illness at Lira University. According to Jacob Ocen, spokesperson of the Lango Cultural Foundation, Odur was rushed to the hospital due to malaria complications, but unfortunately, he did not recover.

The Lango community has announced plans for traditional rites and memorial services to honor the late chief’s legacy. Leaders and community members have called for continued unity and resilience as they mourn their leader. The cultural leaders in Lango have also declared a seven-day period of mourning for their fallen chief, with a call to the government to accord him a state burial to honor his contributions.
In response to his passing, the government and the Lango community have pledged to uphold the values and initiatives championed by H. E. Yosam Odur Ebii. They aim to ensure that his vision for development and cultural preservation continues to inspire progress within the region.
As the community mourns, many remember him as a leader who dedicated his life to the service of his people, leaving behind a legacy of unity, development, and cultural pride.
