Victoria School of Nursing and Midwifery Extends Bursary Program to Bunyoro Sub-Region
Lira City, Uganda – The Governing Council of the Victoria School of Nursing and Midwifery, a leading healthcare training institution in the Lango sub-region, has announced a dedicated bursary initiative for students from the Bunyoro sub-region. The program is designed to support youth pursuing Certificate and Diploma courses in various medical fields at the institution's campus in Lira City.
The announcement was made by the institution's Executive Director, Dr. Isaac Orec, during an interview on Spice FM in Hoima City. Dr. Orec addressed the community of Bunyoro directly, detailing the council's decision.
He explained that the bursary program has its roots in the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns, which severely impacted the nation's economy and exacerbated social challenges. "During that difficult period of COVID-19, Men became men and impregnated many young girls. We saw a rise in teenage pregnancies, which has led to increased vulnerability and poverty for many girls," Dr. Orec stated. "As an institution, we are saying now is the time to support them. We extend our hand and invite them to return to school and benefit from this educational opportunity."

The bursary will cover 525, 000 Ugandan Shillings toward tuition fees for each eligible student from the Bunyoro sub-region. The offer applies to the institution's programs in nursing, midwifery.
Dr. Orec emphasized the transformative power of education, urging the people of Bunyoro to seize this chance. "I appeal to parents, guardians, and community leaders to encourage eligible youth to utilize this opportunity well.
