Thousands Rush for Limited Slots as Akalo School of Nursing and Midwifery Opens July Intake with Bursary Opportunities 

KOLE DISTRICT, Uganda — With Uganda's demand for qualified healthcare professionals continuing to rise, Akalo School of Nursing and Midwifery has launched its July 2026 admission exercise, inviting aspiring nurses and midwives to seize what school leaders describe as a life-changing opportunity before the registration deadline expires.

The institution, one of Northern Uganda's respected health training schools, says applications for its Certificate in Nursing and Midwifery  programmes are being received on a first-come, first-served basis, with limited spaces available for the new intake.

School management has urged prospective students not to wait until the last minute, warning that the admission window is rapidly closing.

Speaking to the media, the Chief Executive Director, Mr. Johnson Aligi, expressed gratitude to parents, guardians, former students and communities across Lango and other parts of Uganda for the confidence they continue to place in the institution.

 "We are deeply grateful for the trust the public has shown in Akalo School of Nursing and Midwifery. Our mission is to produce competent, compassionate and professional health workers who will strengthen Uganda's healthcare system," Mr. Aligi said.

To make professional training more accessible, Mr. Aligi announced that the institution is continuing to provide bursary opportunities to deserving students, enabling learners from different financial backgrounds to pursue careers in nursing and midwifery.

 "No determined student should miss an opportunity because of financial challenges. Through our bursary programme, we are supporting many young people to realize their dream of becoming healthcare professionals," he added.

The school has also built a reputation for academic excellence. According to Mr. Aligi, candidates from the institution have consistently registered impressive performance in examinations conducted by the Uganda Health Professions Assessment Board (UHPAB),  reflecting the quality of teaching, practical clinical training and academic mentorship offered by the institution.

Education experts note that Uganda continues to require more qualified nurses and midwives to strengthen healthcare delivery in both rural and urban communities, making professional health training one of the country's most promising career pathways.

Beyond classroom instruction, Akalo School of Nursing and Midwifery emphasizes practical clinical experience, discipline, professionalism and ethical service, preparing graduates to work confidently in hospitals, health centres and other healthcare institutions across the country.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to visit the school's campus located  along the Lira–Apac Road in Akalo, Kole District , before reaching Akalo Town Council headquarters when travelling from Lira City, to obtain admission forms and guidance on application requirements.

With the registration deadline drawing closer each day, school administrators have appealed to students who aspire to build careers in healthcare to submit their applications without delay.
