West Nile, Uganda: The Alur Kingdom is celebrating a significant opportunity for its young people, as the Fountainhead Institute of Management and Technology, a leading institution in northern Uganda, has awarded 336 bursaries to its youth. This development was confirmed to the Alur community by their Kingdom's communication officer, David Rupiny, on March 12, 2025.

The Alur Kingdom youth, known for their enterprising nature, will benefit greatly from this opportunity, as many currently remain idle and unemployed. In Uganda, 52% of the population is self-employed, and 43% are unpaid family workers. About 77% of the population aged 15-64 is employed, with unemployment rates at 3.2% for the adult population and 5.3% for youth, according to the World Bank.
Approximately 700,000 young people reach working age every year in Uganda, a number expected to rise to an average of one million from 2030-2040, creating a mismatch between labor demand and supply, according to the World Bank.
The Prime Minister of Alur Kingdom, Prince Lawrence Opar Angala, welcomed the bursary offers, noting that they will significantly skill young people and make them employable, contributing to the Kingdom's transformation. Cultural Minister of Education and Environment, Dr. Sarah Akello, appealed to those interested in accessing the bursaries to contact the Kingdom as soon as possible through the listed contacts.
This timely offer aligns with the Kingdom's intensified efforts to fight poverty, improve education, and promote social welfare. The addition of Erussi Institute of Science and Technology is also seen as a blessing, given the limited number of institutions in the area.
Subjects are encouraged to seize these available opportunities for transformation.
