Celebrations Erupt in Erute North as Ongom Arendeng Sworn in as New MP
There was excitement and celebration across Erute North Constituency in Lira District after National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag Mp Ongom Arendeng was officially sworn in as the new Member of Parliament in Kampala.
Ongom, who emerged victorious against the incumbent MP Christine Akello in the recently concluded elections, took the oath of office on Friday morning May, 15, 2026 in Kampala alongside other newly elected legislators.
Speaking shortly after the swearing-in ceremony, Ongom pledged to transform Erute North and address the long-standing challenges affecting the constituency. He described his victory as a sign of trust and confidence from the people, promising to serve with commitment, transparency, and dedication.
The newly sworn-in legislator emphasized that his leadership will prioritize improving service delivery, especially in the sectors of health and education, which he said have for years faced inadequate funding and poor infrastructure.
“I am committed to ensuring better healthcare services, improving schools, and lobbying for development projects that will uplift the livelihoods of our people,” Ongom said.
Residents and supporters who celebrated his swearing-in expressed hope that his leadership would bring renewed development, improved roads, better access to social services, and youth empowerment opportunities in the constituency.
Political analysts say Ongom’s victory marks a significant political shift in Erute North, with many expecting fresh leadership approaches aimed at accelerating socio-economic development in the area.
