Kole, Uganda – Authorities in Kole District are looking into a tragic case involving a 26-year-old woman, Winnie Acen, and her husband, Ronald Ongee, who are accused of murdering their infant son.

According to North Kyoga Police spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the incident took place on February 19, 2025, in Akalo Town Council, shortly after Acen gave birth at home.

Reports suggest that a heated argument erupted between Acen and Ongee soon after the baby was born. In a heartbreaking twist, Acen is said to have turned her anger towards the newborn, allegedly strangling him before disposing of the body in a pit latrine at a nearby school, Alpha Nursery and Primary.

Concerned neighbors, noticing the baby was missing, alerted the authorities, leading to the grim discovery. The school director, Okao Alele, promptly notified Akalo Police Station. When police arrived, they secured the scene, interviewed witnesses, and recovered the baby’s body, which was later sent to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for an autopsy.

Both Acen and Ongee have been taken into custody and are being held at Kole Central Police Station while the investigation continues.

SP Okema has urged parents in the Lango sub-region to reach out to local authorities for support during domestic disputes instead of taking drastic measures.
