Dfcu Bank Deepens Commitment to Green Finance in Uganda

Kampala, Uganda | September 18, 2025 — dfcu Bank has taken a bold step forward in its sustainability agenda with the launch of the second phase of its partnership with the Uganda Green Enterprise Finance Accelerator (UGEFA). The initiative, unveiled at a high-level event at Protea Hotel in Kampala, aims to expand access to green finance for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Uganda.

Backed by the European Union and implemented by adelphi global gGmbH, the partnership is designed to empower businesses operating in sectors such as clean energy, sustainable tourism, waste management, green mobility, and green manufacturing. dfcu Bank, one of Uganda’s largest financial institutions, is positioning itself as a key driver of the country’s transition to a green economy.

A Strategic Shift Toward Sustainability

Speaking at the launch, Helena Mayanja, dfcu Bank’s Head of Corporate Affairs & Sustainability, emphasized the bank’s long-term vision:

> “Sustainability is central to our purpose of transforming lives and businesses in Uganda. This renewed partnership with UGEFA unlocks the potential of Uganda’s green economy by ensuring SMEs have access to the finance and support they need.”

The collaboration goes beyond financial access. It includes capacity-building and business development support, helping green enterprises scale sustainably and make a lasting impact.

International Support for Local Innovation

The European Union has played a pivotal role in supporting Uganda’s green finance ecosystem. Cristina Bănuţă, Programme Manager for Access to Finance, Agribusiness and Land at the EU Delegation to Uganda, praised dfcu Bank’s leadership:

> “dfcu Bank’s commitment to green finance, strengthened by this partnership, shows what’s possible when private sector ambition meets international collaboration. Together, we’re unlocking opportunities for SMEs to drive inclusive growth and environmental resilience.”

Christine Meyer, Project Lead at UGEFA, echoed the sentiment, noting that the partnership has already yielded tangible results. She announced the opening of a new call for applications, inviting more green enterprises to join the programme.

Call for Applications

Green businesses across Uganda are encouraged to apply to the UGEFA programme via ugefa.eu. Successful applicants will benefit from technical assistance, capacity-building, and tailored financial solutions facilitated by dfcu Bank and its partners.
