Rose Tumusiime Explains How She Told Her Ex-Boyfriend Moses Matovu Was Her Father Before Fatal Confrontation

New details have emerged about the confrontation that preceded the death of Afrigo Band icon Moses Matovu, with an account attributed to Rose Tumusiime shedding more light on what happened inside her rented room in Kibuli.

Matovu, 77, died at Kibuli Hospital at about 5:40am on Thursday after sustaining serious injuries during a confrontation that began at Tumusiime’s residence and later moved onto the road. Police have said investigations are still ongoing.

According to the account attributed to Tumusiime, she and Matovu returned to her room at around 2am and remained there until about 5am, when her alleged former boyfriend arrived and knocked on the door.

Tumusiime reportedly refused to open the door, after which the man allegedly became violent and attempted to force his way inside. He is also alleged to have smashed the windows, allowing him to see Matovu inside the room.

Tumusiime reportedly told the man that Matovu was her father in an attempt to calm the situation, but the explanation allegedly angered him further. A local defence official who responded to the commotion said the landlord also came out and asked the man to leave.

The alleged former boyfriend reportedly remained outside and waited for Tumusiime and Matovu to leave. According to Rogers Tukamuhebwa, Tumusiime later escorted Matovu to his vehicle after giving him a cup of water.

Tukamuhebwa said the suspect allegedly attacked Tumusiime outside and began slapping her. Matovu reportedly got out of his vehicle and attempted to intervene, asking the man why he was beating the woman.

The suspect then allegedly turned on Matovu and punched him. The musician reportedly fell onto the pavement and sustained a serious head injury. A boda boda rider, Dyogo Paul, reportedly rushed him to Kibuli Hospital, where he was treated but later died.

Police subsequently arrested Tumusiime and searched her room for possible evidence. Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala said preliminary investigations pointed to a physical confrontation involving a man who had previously been in a relationship with the woman.

The male suspect was initially reported to have fled the scene, but police later announced the arrest of a 41-year-old man identified as Vincent Nsamba in Nansana. Police said detectives and forensic teams were continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fatal confrontation.

The emerging account suggests that Matovu may not have been the original focus of the confrontation, although police have not yet made a final determination about the motive or the precise circumstances that led to his death.
