She Has No Case To Answer! DPP Clears Late Moses Matovu’s Girlfriend Rose Tusiime Who Made Him Get Boxed To Death

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Lino Angunzu, has clarified that Rose Tusiime, the woman who was with veteran Afrigo Band musician Moses Matovu shortly before he was fatally attacked, will not be charged over his death.

Angunzu said Tusiime is instead expected to assist investigators and prosecutors as a key witness in the murder case against Vincent Arnold Nsamba, also known as Sitenda.

The DPP made the clarification on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, during his maiden media interface at the Office of the DPP at JLOS Towers in Naguru, Kampala.

He explained that Tusiime had been wrongly perceived as a suspect after she was brought to the Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court alongside Nsamba on September 28.

Angunzu said her appearance in court was the result of an error by police officers who were escorting Nsamba, stressing that the prosecution had determined that she was not a suspect.

Matovu, 77, was attacked in the early hours of September 24 in Kibuli Market Zone B, Makindye Division, shortly after leaving Tusiime’s residence.

According to the prosecution case, Nsamba confronted Tusiime and Matovu as they headed towards Matovu’s parked Land Rover. Nsamba allegedly attacked Tusiime, prompting Matovu to intervene, before Nsamba punched Matovu below the chin, causing him to fall.

Matovu was rushed to Kibuli Hospital but was pronounced dead at about 7am. Nsamba was later arrested in Nansana, Wakiso District, and charged with murder.

Nsamba has denied intending to kill Matovu, reportedly telling investigators during a reconstruction of the scene that he boxed the musician and he fell, but that he did not intend to kill him.

Tusiime had initially attracted public attention after being detained by police following Matovu’s death and later appearing in court alongside Nsamba. Her presence fuelled speculation that she could also face criminal charges.

However, the DPP has now ruled out that possibility, with Angunzu indicating that Tusiime is expected to become a key witness in the case against Nsamba.
