Museveni’s Anti-Drone Gun Goes Viral As SFC Security Device Sparks Online Debate

Images showing a member of the Special Forces Command (SFC) carrying a large gun-like device during President Yoweri Museveni’s recent public engagement in Fort Portal have gone viral on social media, attracting widespread speculation about its purpose.
The photographs, reportedly taken during the Empaako event, show a uniformed SFC officer holding a black device resembling a rifle. Some social media users initially mistook the equipment for a conventional firearm before questions emerged about whether it was designed to counter drones.
The exact make and model of the device has not been officially confirmed. However, its appearance is consistent with portable counter-drone equipment, commonly referred to as an anti-drone gun or radio-frequency jammer. Such systems are designed to interfere with communication links between drones and their operators.
Counter-drone jammers can disrupt radio-frequency signals used for drone control, video transmission and, depending on the system, satellite-navigation functions. When those links are interrupted, a drone may be prevented from carrying out its intended operation.
The sighting has attracted particular attention because it comes amid the ongoing treason case involving opposition politician Dr Kizza Besigye. During the trial, prosecution witness Andrew Wilson has testified about alleged discussions involving the use of drone technology in a purported plan to assassinate President Museveni.
Wilson told the High Court that he allegedly became involved with individuals linked to the case while working as a private security investigator and later acted as an undercover operative. Prosecutors have presented his testimony, alongside recordings and other evidence, as part of their case against Besigye and his co-accused. The accused have denied the allegations.
The heavy security presence during the Fort Portal event reportedly involved the police, UPDF, SFC and intelligence agencies, with additional security measures implemented around the city. The appearance of the specialised device therefore attracted considerable public interest, particularly among social media users trying to identify the equipment. However, it was revealed that.To Continue Reading, Tap Herel
