BREAKING NEWS: RDC Office Moves to Streamline NGO Operations in Karenga, Vows to Strengthen Community Support

Karenga District, Uganda – In a strategic move to enhance transparency, accountability, and service delivery, the Office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Karenga Mr. Peter Tanban convened a high-level coordination meeting on Thursday with all Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) operating within the district. 

The meeting, held at the Karenga District Headquarters, brought together key stakeholders to assess the impact of development partners and establish a unified front for community empowerment.

Presiding over the crucial sitting, the RDC emphasized the government's commitment to fostering a harmonious working relationship with NGOs while ensuring that all activities strictly align with the district's development priorities and national laws.

He also unveiled the objectives of the meeting which among them include,  

Establishing a Comprehensive Database: The RDC’s office initiated a full census to determine the exact number of NGOs currently active in the district. This move aims to eliminate "ghost" organizations and ensure that every entity is properly documented to prevent duplication of efforts and streamline government oversight, 

He also conducted review to confirm that all NGOs are fully registered and recognized by the Karenga District Local Government. This verification process is designed to ensure that no organization operates illegally or outside the scope of its mandate, thereby protecting the community from potential malpractice.

Additionally, Map Out Current Interventions: The meeting focused on identifying the specific geographical areas and sectors—such as health, education, agriculture, and water sanitation—where NGOs are currently active. This mapping is intended to identify gaps and avoid overlapping interventions that waste resources.

 Finally Recognize and Appreciate Impact: Amid the strict regulatory oversight, the RDC took a moment to offer profound appreciation to the NGOs for their unwavering commitment and the "good work" they are doing in supporting the people of Karenga. The RDC noted that the government is aware of the significant contributions made by these partners, especially in hard-to-reach areas where government services are still being fully.

 The Background: Karenga District, which was recently carved out of Kaabong, is a relatively young district facing significant challenges related to infrastructure, poverty, and climate change.

The presence of NGOs is critical in bridging the gap in service delivery for the predominantly pastoralist communities.
