In Bid to Prove That Power Belongs to Them, Muhoozi’s PLU Plans Rally in Otafiire’s Kashenshero Town as Mawanda Calls Him Hitler

The political confrontation between Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba and Minister of Internal Affairs Maj Gen (Rtd) Kahinda Otafiire has taken a new turn, with leaders of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) declaring their support for Muhoozi and planning a rally in Otafiire’s home area.

Igara East MP Michael Mawanda, who serves as PLU director of mobilisation, has launched a fierce attack on Otafiire, accusing him of fighting the organisation and targeting people loyal to President Yoweri Museveni and his son.

Mawanda accused the minister of greed and land grabbing, claiming that some residents of Greater Bushenyi have nicknamed him Hitler because of his political conduct. “That land grabber and greedy politician is fighting PLU. In Greater Bushenyi, people call him Hitler because he fights everyone loyal to the President and to you,” Mawanda said.

He also warned that PLU members were prepared to confront Otafiire, describing criticism of Muhoozi as an attack on the entire organisation. “This time we are ready to fight Hon. Otafiire. Any attack on you is an attack on all of us,” he added.

The remarks come amid an escalating dispute between Muhoozi and Otafiire. The tension intensified after Otafiire told Parliament that there was a problem with generals who preferred violence to resolve disagreements. Muhoozi appeared to interpret the comments as a personal attack and subsequently demanded an apology while threatening to have the minister arrested.

PLU mobiliser David Kabanda has also announced plans to organise a major endorsement rally for Muhoozi in Kashenshero, a town in Mitooma District associated with Otafiire. Kabanda, who serves as executive secretary in the PLU National Chairman’s office and represents Kasambya County in Parliament, challenged the minister to try to stop the planned event.

“I am going to hold a BIGGEST endorsement rally for General Muhoozi Kainerugaba in Kashenshero, the town of Otafiire. Last time he frustrated us. Let him try now. The Bachwezi have directed us to go to Mitooma,” Kabanda wrote.

Otafiire, meanwhile, has maintained a defiant position amid the growing pressure. During a recent public lecture, he said he would rather die fighting than live on his knees begging, reinforcing his refusal to back down in the ongoing confrontation.

With PLU leaders openly backing Muhoozi and announcing plans for political mobilisation in Otafiire’s home area, the dispute is spreading beyond the two senior figures. The planned rally and the increasingly aggressive statements from both sides have drawn attention to the growing political tensions surrounding Muhoozi’s ambitions and his relationship with veteran members of the ruling establishment.
