As part of the traditional process, the new King is expected to leave Rwegoma Palace at midnight and walk on foot to Karuziika Palace, where the next stage of the enthronement ritual will take place.

According to Omusuuga Charles Kamurasi Akiiki, the midnight journey is an important part of the traditional rites that the King is expected to complete before he formally takes his place at Karuziika Palace.

Kamurasi said that after leaving Rwegoma Palace, Edward Rukidi Nyaboongo I will walk to Karuziika, following a traditional process connected to the transfer of authority and the installation of a new Omukama.

He explained that upon reaching Karuziika Palace, the King will encounter someone who will attempt to stop him from entering the palace. According to Kamurasi, this encounter is part of the traditional ceremony and has a specific meaning within the enthronement process.

“The King will depart from Rwegoma Palace at midnight and walk on foot to Karuziika. When he arrives, someone will attempt to stop him from entering the palace,” Kamurasi said.

Kamurasi further explained that after the person stops the King, Edward Rukidi Nyaboongo I will hand over all powers and authority to him as required by the traditional ritual.

“I will then hand over all powers and authority to him,” Kamurasi said, describing the moment as one of the important stages in the traditional process leading to the King’s formal installation.

The ritual comes after Edward Rukidi Nyaboongo I was selected by the Babiito clan and subsequently endorsed by the Rukurato, the Supreme Council of Tooro Kingdom. His coronation is scheduled to take place at Karuziika Palace in Fort Portal City.
