Caught Red Handed!! Kenyan MP Found thumb-sucking in parliament
Kenyan nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has sparked online debate after a video emerged showing her sucking her thumb while using her phone during a Senate sitting.
The footage, which circulated widely on October 7, 2026, reportedly shows Nyamu seated in the Senate chamber during proceedings held on October 6. She is seen scrolling through her phone before placing her thumb in her mouth.
The unusual moment quickly attracted attention on social media, where some users mocked the senator and questioned her conduct during an official parliamentary session. Others wondered whether she was paying attention to the business being discussed in the chamber.
However, some social media users defended Nyamu, arguing that thumb-sucking can sometimes be an unconscious habit associated with seeking comfort, boredom or tiredness. They also noted that the brief incident did not appear to interrupt the Senate proceedings.
This is not the first time Nyamu has been captured sucking her thumb during a parliamentary session. In October 2024, she was filmed doing something similar, prompting online reactions and jokes from Kenyans.
At the time, Nyamu responded lightheartedly to the criticism, reportedly saying she was “still children,” a remark that further fuelled discussions about the habit.
As of October 8, 2026, there had been no widely reported public statement from Nyamu specifically addressing the latest footage. The incident has nevertheless renewed conversations about the conduct expected of elected and nominated leaders while Parliament is in session.
The video has also highlighted how social media can turn brief moments involving public figures into major talking points. While some Kenyans have criticised Nyamu’s behaviour, others have urged the public not to overreact to a short clip, leaving the senator at the centre of another online debate.
