UPC’s F. Obuku Calls for True Independence Beyond the Flag

UGANDA — As Uganda marks its 64th Independence Day on October 9, 2026, UPC’s F. Obuku has called for renewed reflection on the country’s progress, urging leaders and citizens to address persistent socio-economic challenges facing the population.
In his Independence Day message, Obuku said that while the country celebrates its freedom, many Ugandans continue to grapple with high taxes, unemployment, challenges in the education sector and corruption.
He noted that the meaning of independence should extend beyond national symbols and celebrations to include freedom from poverty, injustice and neglect.
“True independence means freedom from poverty, injustice, and neglect. We are not truly free yet,” Obuku said, calling for continued efforts towards a better future for all Ugandans.
He also urged citizens to remain hopeful and committed to building a society where opportunities, quality education and economic progress are accessible to everyone.
Obuku concluded his message by wishing Ugandans strength and hope as the country reflects on its independence journey.
For God and My Country, Uganda.
