I Would Rather Die Fighting Than Live Begging – Gen Otafiire Breaks His Silence

Minister of Water and Environment Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Kahinda Otafiire has reportedly responded defiantly amid growing tensions with Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, following a public ultimatum demanding an apology from the veteran politician.

The disagreement escalated on Friday evening after Gen Muhoozi, who also serves as chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), issued a series of social media posts targeting Otafiire over remarks he allegedly made against him.

Muhoozi reportedly accused Otafiire of making statements against him in Parliament and during a public lecture at Valley University of Science and Technology in Bushenyi.

In his posts, Muhoozi reportedly gave Otafiire three days to issue a public apology, warning that security forces would arrest him if he failed to comply with the demand.

The CDF also reportedly described the veteran politician as a nuisance and suggested that he should be sent to an old people's home, remarks that further intensified the public disagreement.

Otafiire's reported declaration, "I would rather die fighting than live begging," has added a defiant tone to the confrontation, with the statement suggesting that he is unwilling to bow to pressure.

The disagreement has attracted public attention because both men have longstanding connections to Uganda's military and political leadership, as well as influential roles within the ruling National Resistance Movement.

The situation has raised questions about the next steps in the dispute, particularly whether Otafiire will respond further to Muhoozi's demands and whether the confrontation will escalate in the coming days.
