Gen Muhoozi: I'm Ruthless But I Follow The Law. I Don't Hang Outlaws On The Closest Tree We Find

Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has said that although he considers himself a ruthless person when it comes to dealing with matters of security, he remains committed to following the law.

Gen Muhoozi made the remarks in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, where he addressed how people accused of wrongdoing should be handled. He emphasized that security agencies should not abandon legal procedures when dealing with suspects.

“I am ruthless but I follow the law,” Gen Muhoozi posted, making it clear that his approach to security does not mean ignoring established legal processes.

He further said that he does not believe in taking suspects and punishing them without giving them an opportunity to face the justice system. “I don't hang outlaws on the closest tree we find,” he said.

According to Gen Muhoozi, even people accused of serious offences are entitled to have their cases handled through the courts. He stressed that accusations alone should not automatically lead to punishment outside the law.

“Every Ugandan is entitled to his day in court,” the CDF stated, highlighting what he described as the importance of allowing the judicial process to take its course.

The remarks underline Gen Muhoozi’s position that firmness in matters of security can still be exercised alongside respect for the law. His comments also point to the role of courts in determining the guilt or innocence of people accused of offences.

Gen Muhoozi has continued to use his social media platforms to comment on security and national issues. In this latest message, he presented himself as tough on crime and security threats while insisting that those accused of wrongdoing should still be subjected to the legal process.
