ZOMBO NRM Top Mobilizer Stephen Okwaimungu wins subcounty Party elections

Zomobo, Uganda: Stephen Okwaimungu, a passionate supporter of NRM party and Patriotic league of Uganda has triumph over opponents emerging as a winner of the NRM party publicity secretary for Paidha town council, Zombo district.
This was in the hotly contested NRM party structure election for sub county and town council held nationwide on 16 May, 2025.
Okwai, commonly referred to as “Ambassador Okwai”, floored his opponents after 123 electorates lined up behind him to showcase their full support. His opponents Emmanuel Ovoya got 31 votes whilst Kizito Oyullu got a paltry 31 votes.
In an interview with this Publication, Okwaimungu described the election results as a big milestone, adding he is now focusing on the position of secretary general for the party at the district level, a position currently under the leadership of Boris Ringtho.
“I can’t believe I have made it, people distributed money the whole night so that I don’t make it, many thanks to my supporters for entrusting me” Okwai said, after being declared the winner.
Okwaimungu added that, “I want to warn all those corrupt members spoiling our party at the district level, I’m coming to clean the mess, because I want to replace Boris who is the secretary general for NRM”
Similarly, Mave Wedunga Isaiah, a renowned NRM party chairperson for Paidha town council who led the party for over 20 years, lost his seat to Shaban Ouchi .
In an interview, Mave, commonly known as “Abiriga” conceded the result, promising to work together with the new leader to champion the party growth.
Mave added, “I call upon our people to now stop ill talks and insults about my family, we need to behave maturely”
Other categories elected included special interest’s groups, youths, women, veterans.
The election for the party at the district level will be held on Friday next week.
Prisca Onegiu, the NRM party registrar for Zombo have hailed party members for maintaining peace during the hotly contested sub county or town council party structures election held today across the district.
She revealed the information to journalists at Bar Okoro stadium after presiding over the successful election exercise for Paidha town council.
Equally, the female MP for Northern Uganda Catharine Akumu Mavenjina commended party members for exhibiting respect and maturity during the exercise.
Meanwhile the assistant RDC of Zombo Bruno Manano warned members will ill motives of fueling tensions during forthcoming election programs.
The NRM is preparing their house for the forthcoming much anticipated 2026 general elections.
