Out of Danger: Former UPDF Spy Master Lt Mabonga Reportedly Arrives in Germany After Exposing CDF Gen Muhoozi
Former Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) intelligence operative Lt Mabonga has reportedly arrived in Germany after spending more than eight months on the run, according to reports. He is said to be seeking asylum, claiming that his life is in danger if he returns to Uganda.
Mabonga, a former operative of the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI), reportedly fled Uganda following allegations and claims he made about activities within the military. His reported arrival in Germany marks a new chapter in his efforts to find safety outside the country.
According to the reports, Mabonga became disillusioned with the military after allegedly witnessing the torture of opposition supporters who had reportedly been abducted and detained in underground facilities. He claimed that some of these actions were carried out on orders from senior authorities.
The former operative also reportedly said his Christian faith made it difficult for him to witness what he described as brutal treatment of innocent citizens. He suggested that these experiences contributed to his decision to distance himself from the military and leave the country.
In several videos he recorded, Mabonga allegedly expressed fear following the deaths of some of his former bosses. He claimed that their opposition to plans linked to the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) had raised concerns about his own safety. These claims have not been independently verified.
Mabonga reportedly went into hiding as security operatives were said to be searching for him. He is alleged to have spent more than eight months evading arrest before eventually making arrangements to leave Uganda.
Reports indicate that he arrived in Berlin, Germany, last week with assistance from contacts within security circles and opposition activists. He is now reportedly seeking asylum on the grounds that returning to Uganda could expose him to danger.
However, details about his asylum application, his current legal status in Germany and the allegations he made against military officials have not been independently confirmed. His reported arrival has renewed attention on his claims about events within the UPDF and the circumstances surrounding his departure from Uganda.
