KAMPALA, UGANDA: — The Member of Parliament for Lira East, Alyela Omodi, has officially been sworn into office today.

Omodi becomes the first directly elected NRM Member of Parliament for Lira City East since the city’s creation, taking over from UPC Party President Jimmy Akena Obote, who represented the constituency for many years.

Dressed in a black suit, Omodi pledged after his swearing-in ceremony to prioritize improved social service delivery and community development across the constituency.

He said his leadership will focus on key sectors such as health, education, road infrastructure, and youth empowerment.

“I am committed to ensuring that the people of Lira East receive better services and equal development opportunities,” Omodi said. “My leadership will focus on addressing the everyday challenges affecting our communities.”

Supporters and local leaders welcomed his swearing-in, expressing optimism that his leadership will bring positive change and stronger representation for the constituency.

Omodi also called for unity among residents and pledged to work closely with government agencies, local leaders, and development partners to improve livelihoods in the area.

His swearing-in marks the beginning of a new political chapter for Lira East, as residents look forward to tangible progress and effective representation in Parliament.

With extensive leadership experience and a strong professional background, many people in the Lango sub-region believe Omodi possesses strong ministerial potential.
