Sad! Erias Lukwago Reportedly Rushed to Mulago Hospital in Critical Condition as Supporters Await Updates
Fresh concern has emerged over the health of former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago following reports that he was rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital in a critical medical condition. The development, announced on October 19, 2026, by his former deputy Doreen Nyanjura Omutatina, has raised questions about what happened to the opposition politician and the kind of medical attention he is currently receiving.
Nyanjura’s announcement left many people seeking answers, as she did not immediately reveal what triggered the reported emergency. Details about Lukwago’s symptoms, the circumstances surrounding his admission and his response to treatment were not immediately available, leaving his supporters waiting for further communication from people close to him.
The reported hospital admission comes after months of concern about Lukwago’s health, which has been affected by several complications. The veteran politician has previously experienced breathing difficulties, spinal problems and persistent pain around the area of an earlier operation. These challenges have raised concerns about his recovery and the possibility of requiring further specialist treatment.
In July 2026, a medical assessment reportedly recommended that Lukwago return to his spine surgeons in India for further evaluation. The assessment highlighted persistent upper limb radiculitis, a condition involving irritation of nerves in the neck, as well as reduced strength in his left arm. These findings pointed to continuing medical concerns that required attention from specialists familiar with his previous spinal treatment.
The assessment also raised concerns about the safety of conducting another magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan because doctors could not establish whether the artificial disc implanted during his previous spinal surgery was compatible with the available scanners. This complicated the process of determining the safest way to conduct further investigations into his condition.
Lukwago’s health challenges have also featured in legal proceedings concerning his ability to access appropriate medical care while on remand. His medical needs became an important issue in discussions about treatment and recovery, particularly given the specialist attention reportedly required to manage his spinal complications.
Despite these difficulties, Lukwago remains a prominent figure in Uganda’s political and legal history. He represented Kampala Central in Parliament from 2006 to 2011 before becoming Kampala Lord Mayor, a position he held for three terms. Throughout his political career, he became widely known for his outspoken criticism of government decisions and his involvement in Kampala’s political affairs.
As reports of his admission to Mulago Hospital continue to attract attention, the immediate focus remains on his current condition and whether his family or close associates will provide further updates. With the cause of the reported emergency and the details of his treatment still unclear, supporters will be hoping for reassuring news about the veteran politician’s health and recovery.
