Oyam, Uganda – The Luo Natives: Lango Cultural Institution Speaker Omodo Omodo Gains Momentum in Oyam North Parliamentary Bid

Willy Omodo Omodo, the current Speaker of the Lango Cultural Institution, is garnering overwhelming support from the electorate in Oyam North constituency as he campaigns for a seat in Uganda’s 12th Parliament.

Omodo, a native of Acaba Sub-county, is the son of the late Jasper Omodo Anyuru, a respected former Mayor of Lira Municipality and prominent political figure in northern Uganda. His political lineage and deep roots in the community have continued to endear him to many constituents.

In 2023, following the death of then-incumbent MP and Minister of Labour, Col. (Rtd.) Charles Okello Engola Macodwogo, Omodo initially expressed interest in contesting for the Oyam North parliamentary seat. However, in a move that was widely praised as a gesture of party unity, he stepped down in favor of Junior Engola, the son of the late minister, to preserve cohesion within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Having previously contested for the seat and alleging electoral malpractice that denied him victory, Omodo has re-entered the political arena with renewed determination. He aims to reclaim the constituency from the opposition Uganda People's Congress (UPC), which he accuses of failing to deliver essential services to the people of Oyam North.

Speaking at a recent rally, Omodo promised to address the pressing issues affecting the community, with a strong focus on poverty alleviation and social development. “Poverty is a burden that continues to hinder development in Oyam. If elected, I will work tirelessly to bring economic opportunities and support to our people,” he said.

On the education front, Omodo pledged to improve the state of public schools across the constituency. He emphasized the need for accessible and quality education for all children, stating that no child in Oyam should be left behind due to poor infrastructure or lack of resources.

He also used the platform to rally support for President Yoweri Museveni and the NRM, urging constituents to vote for continuity and stable leadership. “Let us give our vote to President Museveni and myself so that we can continue transforming our communities together,” he added.

With his campaign gaining momentum and strong backing from grassroots supporters, Omodo Omodo is poised to be a formidable contender in the upcoming elections. His mix of cultural leadership, political experience, and local heritage places him as a key figure in the future of Oyam North.
