Former Kampala Central Division Town Clerk Denis Alyela Omodi Receives Huge Support In His Lira City MP Bid

LIRA, UGANDA: The Former Kampala Central Division Town Clerk, Denis Alyela Omodi is receiving Huge Support in his Lira City East Division MP bid.

Alyela, born of Akwaka village, Ongura Ward, launched his door-door campaign with a strategic meeting with the NRM party Chairpersons of different Wards within Lira City East B. Later, Hon. participated in a joint campaign rally that brought together almost the candidates contesting in Lira City East Division, at Obanga Pe Wany Yawhea Pentacostol Church grounds.

At the first rally, Alyela Omodi stood out among the candidates having been received on arrival, with chant humiliations as women, youths and all categories of NRM voting community signing and dancing with joy.

Earlier in the day, the MP Hopeful Denis Alyela Omodi addressed the media conference at the Lira City/District NRM offices located at Senior Quarters cell in Senior Ward, Lira City East Division. In his address to the electorates, Mr. Alyela promised the electorates that he will prioritize the rehabilitation of the roads infrastructure that has been a major challenge to the people of Lira for the last 25 years of the opposition UPC tenure.

 

He also highlighted the need to improve the health service delivery, which he said he will handle this through lobbing and appropriating enough budget to ensure the lower health units are upgraded, fully equipped and staffed to reduce on the border of locals tracking many kilometers to seek for better services. Further under health; he pledged to host several health camps to tackle the common diseases burdening the community in his constituency.

Alyela is optimistic that he is the only candidate that will strengthen the NRM part based in Lira City East Division, which has for a decade been  tagged as the UPC no-go-zone. "However in my tenure, my focus won't be party affiliated but most importantly, I'll engage much in activities that will actually get our people out of stricken poverty through supporting the Local women groups through economic empowerment under what we term as 'dero-kec".

To tackle the challenges of unemployment among the youth, Alyela, who is a Social worker and an administrator by profession, said he will collaborate with the investors to establish factories and ensure many of the youth in his constituency are employed on merit basis in both informal and formal sectors.

At his first rally, what excited the electorates more, was his commitment to enhance the education standards and performance in the government aided schools by improving the infrastructures and motivating teachers to double their efforts for better results. 

As a legislator,one of my core roles is to appropriate budget; if elected MP of Lira City East division, I'll ensure enough money is allocated to Lira City to boost the road networks to enable easy market accessibility for our farmers. 

 Alyela shares the plight of the farmers in the outskirts of the city pleading that if elected the MP, he will network with the ministry of Agriculture to provide the farmers  with the modern farming imputes and qualify seeds, link farmers to markets as one way of addressing the challenge of famine and poverty to improve the household income.

As provided by the law, Denis Alyela Omodi officially resigned and handed over his office on the 30th June 2025 to concentrate on Lira City East MP bid. On his arrival at the Lira City/district party offices, he was rescued by the party administrative secretary together with the City Election Officer of the City, Thomas Okello, who handed him over to the City East division party leadership headed by the chairman, Tonny Alex Ogwal aka Alexis. The leaderss took him to the party parish and village leaders, who welcomed him and blessed him to go and crash the opposition-planted candidates, as he secure the flag for the National Parliamentary elections slated for January next year.

Daniel Omara, a resident of Lira East Ireda Ward who interacted with this publication, welcomed Alyela in the race saying for a decade, they (NRM) members had been yarning for a focused leader who is pro-people in vein and that his arrivals in the area has restored hope not only in the lives of the party supporters but across the all parties.

Marvin Kawere, a prominent NRM mobilizer and former chairman LC3 of Railway Division, said Alyela has come timely when Ira City is yarning for a leader that can unite people and deliver service to everyone irrespective of the political belonging.

Kawere said,.for long the residents of Lira East suffered staggering representation at Parliament, urging Alyela to focus on unity, service delivery and economic empowerment of the people of his area if elected the area MP.

Alex Ogwal and Denis Aguma,  the Lira City East NRM chairman and Secretary of Finance, respectively, welcomed Alyela and thanked him for paying allegiance to the party at all times.

The leaders cautioned the party candidates at every levels to strictly adheare to the campaign guidelines to as set by the party electoral Commission to avoid disqualification. Aguma said they party is seeking for the strong and dedicated candidates who netwrk with Dr. Jane Aceng Ocero, the current City Woman MP and Minister of health, to lobby and bring home more development unlike those opposed to the current regime.
