Gen Muhoozi Appoints Moses Wetangula As His Mutume In Kenya To Support Ruto’s Re-Election

Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has sparked political discussion after a post attributed to him announced the appointment of Kenya’s National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetangula, as his “Mutume” in Kenya.

In the post shared on X, formerly Twitter, Muhoozi wrote that he already had enough “Batume” in Uganda and had therefore decided to appoint Wetangula to represent him in Kenya. He linked the statement to his support for Kenyan President William Ruto’s re-election bid.

Muhoozi’s message included the words, “Tunataka Second term,” a Swahili expression meaning “We want a second term.” The statement appeared to express support for Ruto serving another term as Kenya’s president.

The use of the words “Batume” and “Mutume” attracted attention because the terms refer to messengers or representatives. Muhoozi’s post appeared to use the expressions humorously while extending his political message beyond Uganda’s borders.

Wetangula, who serves as Speaker of Kenya’s National Assembly, is a prominent figure in Kenyan politics. His name being mentioned in the post has drawn interest because of his senior position in the country’s political leadership.

President Ruto is serving his first term after winning Kenya’s 2022 presidential election. His political future and the question of a second term are expected to remain important topics as the country moves towards its next general election, scheduled for 2027.

Muhoozi has frequently attracted public attention through his social media posts about regional politics, Uganda’s leadership and relationships with political figures in neighbouring countries. His latest reported message has added another cross-border political reference to his online commentary.

However, the post alone does not establish that Wetangula has accepted any appointment or formally committed to supporting Ruto’s re-election campaign. Any response from Wetangula or further clarification from Muhoozi would help explain the meaning and intention behind the statement.
