Exclusive;WHY UGANDA MUST CONTINUE TO HONOUR ITS HEROES-OMARA APITTA
By; Lamex Omara Apitta
Kampala, Uganda ; As Uganda commemorates National Heroes Day, we reflect on our nation's journey, honour those who sacrificed for our country, and renew our commitment to the values they upheld.
Heroes Day is more than a public holiday. It reminds us that the peace, unity, and progress we enjoy today were earned through the courage and sacrifice of many Ugandans who stood against oppression, insecurity, and injustice.
The day serves important purposes. It preserves our history, promotes national unity, and inspires patriotism and public service. Our heroes came from different backgrounds but shared a commitment to Uganda’s wellbeing. Their example reminds us that service to others—whether in education, healthcare, security, farming, business, or public service—is a form of heroism.
As we honour the heroes of the past, we must also address today’s challenges by promoting human rights, accountability, justice, and equal opportunity for all.
Heroes Day should be a day of both remembrance and recommitment. The best way to honour our heroes is to protect the gains they achieved and continue building a peaceful, united, and prosperous Uganda.

Happy National Heroes Day to all Ugandans.
