Alur Kingdom & Zombo Muslim District Leaders Hold Talks to Foster Unity and Development
By Mike Rwothomio
The new leader of Zombo Muslim District Kadhi, Abdullaziz Kassim Amin, led a high-level delegation on Saturday, June 6, 2026, on a courtesy visit to Alur Kingdom Prime Minister Prince Lawrence Opar Angala at his office in Yamo Trading Centre, Atyak Sub-County.
The meeting aimed to strengthen collaboration between the Kingdom and the Muslim community.
Kadhi Amin was accompanied by Zombo Muslim District Coordinator Sheikh Twaha Musa, senior officials Yasin Salim and Yasin Wodabong, and the Head of Kaal Atyak Royal Emissaries.
The delegation expressed gratitude to the Alur Kingdom for its support in establishing the new Zombo Muslim District. The Kadhi conveyed appreciation from Uganda’s Mufti, His Eminence Sheikh Mubajje Mubarak, to King Phillip Olarker Rauni III for backing the district’s creation. He highlighted the active involvement of Alur chiefs and the King’s message delivered by the Prime Minister during the Kadhi’s installation ceremony in Warr Town Council in May 2026.
On socioeconomic cooperation, the delegation briefed the Kingdom on the HALAL FARMERS CENTRE initiative, which will establish two subsidized agricultural input outlets in Zombo to boost farmer incomes regardless of religion. They requested land from the Kingdom to set up a model mixed farm expected to create employment opportunities for youth across faiths.
The Kadhi also sought the Kingdom’s intervention in an emerging leadership dispute, noting a splinter faction that has aligned with the Kibuli Muslim leadership opposing the government-recognized Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC). Citing recent violence in Arua and Yumbe, he appealed for constructive mediation to prevent bloodshed.
Prime Minister Prince Lawrence Opar Angala reaffirmed the Alur Kingdom’s policy of religious neutrality and impartial facilitation.
He stated that the Kingdom will continue partnering with all legitimate religious organizations operating lawfully within its jurisdiction to promote unity, education, health, and socioeconomic transformation.
The Prime Minister also emphasized that the Kingdom will not support groups involved in attacks on others, child marriages, or those that discourage medical care in favor of miraculous healing alone. He urged feuding Muslim factions to resolve differences through dialogue, forgiveness, and reconciliation to avoid violence.
The Zombo Muslim District was carved out of the Nebbi Muslim District and formally inaugurated last month in Warr Town Council, Ora County.
The ceremony, attended by an Alur Kingdom delegation, stressed unity, effective leadership, and the pursuit of both secular and Islamic education.
This development is part of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council’s creation of 17 new districts nationwide, approved in October 2025, to improve service delivery to Uganda’s approximately 9.07 million Muslims.
The Alur Kingdom has a long history of supporting the Muslim community, including land donations for mosques and past mediation efforts.

Prime Minister Opar Angala encouraged the new district leadership to promote both secular and religious education to address the underrepresentation of Muslims in key professions such as medicine and engineering, while commending the UMSC for bringing services closer to the growing Muslim population.
