Assured Win! Ugandans React As Thousands Rally For Gen Muhoozi’s 2031 Presidential Bid
Thousands of supporters of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) have turned up for rallies in Mbarara City and Bushenyi District to express support for Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s potential presidential bid in 2031. The gatherings have attracted attention as supporters signed books endorsing Muhoozi, who chairs the PLU and serves as Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces.
The rallies are part of a nationwide mobilisation campaign through which PLU organisers aim to collect 20 million endorsements for Muhoozi. Organisers have presented the exercise as a grassroots initiative promoting patriotism, national service and public participation, rather than a formal launch of a presidential campaign.
During the gatherings, supporters expressed confidence in Muhoozi’s political future, with some describing the large turnouts as a sign of growing public backing. The enthusiasm among participants has prompted discussions about his possible entry into the 2031 presidential race and the level of support he could attract across the country.
PLU leaders, including Hon. Michael Mawanda, praised the turnout in western Uganda and commended supporters for participating in the endorsement drive. The organisers said the mobilisation would continue in other districts as they pursue their target of collecting millions of signatures from people backing Muhoozi’s future political ambitions.
Another gathering was planned for Ntungamo on October 17, with organisers announcing activities that include free medical care and business-related services. Such initiatives are intended to bring communities together while promoting the organisation’s message and expanding its presence across the country.
Supporters have highlighted unity, patriotism and youth participation as key features of the mobilisation. They argue that the rallies provide an opportunity for people to express their political preferences and demonstrate support for a leader they believe could play a greater role in Uganda’s future.
However, Muhoozi’s potential presidential ambitions have also raised questions about the involvement of an active military officer in politics. As Chief of Defence Forces, he occupies a senior position in Uganda’s military, prompting debate about the relationship between military service, political activity and the requirements governing the country’s leadership.
The rallies in Mbarara and Bushenyi have added momentum to public discussion about the 2031 presidential race, although large gatherings and signed endorsements alone do not establish how voters would behave in an election. For now, the PLU continues its nationwide mobilisation, while the scale of Muhoozi’s eventual political support remains to be determined.
