Sad News! Death & injuries Recorded On Kampala–Gulu Highway Accident

A truck driver has died, while two other people sustained injuries in a fatal road accident involving a Sino truck and a Mitsubishi Fuso along the Kampala–Gulu Highway in Luwero District. The crash occurred at around 11:50 a.m. in Nkondo Village, Nnyimbwa Sub-county, leaving one person dead and raising fresh concerns about road safety on the busy highway.

According to Savannah Region Police spokesperson Sam Twiineamazima, the accident involved two heavy vehicles travelling in opposite directions. The Sino truck was reportedly heading from Gulu towards Kampala when the driver encountered a serious mechanical problem that allegedly led to the deadly collision.

Preliminary police investigations indicate that the Sino truck suffered a tyre failure, with four tyres reportedly bursting as the vehicle continued along the highway. The incident is believed to have made it difficult for the driver to maintain control of the truck, resulting in the tragic chain of events.

The driver, identified only as Ssegujja in the initial police report, reportedly lost control of the Sino truck before colliding with an oncoming Mitsubishi Fuso. The force of the impact pushed the Mitsubishi Fuso off the road and into a nearby maize garden.

The Mitsubishi Fuso subsequently overturned in the garden, leaving two people injured. Their identities had not been fully established in the initial report, and police had not yet provided detailed information about the severity of their injuries.

Sadly, the Sino truck driver died in the crash. The accident has left questions about the circumstances surrounding the reported tyre bursts and whether other factors may have contributed to the driver losing control of the vehicle.

Police have launched investigations to establish the exact cause of the accident and determine the circumstances that led to the collision. Authorities are expected to examine the reported tyre failure and other possible factors as part of their efforts to reconstruct the incident.

The Kampala–Gulu Highway is a major transport route connecting the capital to northern Uganda and is regularly used by heavy trucks, passenger vehicles and other road users.
