KALAKAI DISTRICT— Bethlehem School of Health Sciences has expanded its academic programmes and opened admissions for the July/August 2026 intake, a move expected to improve access to higher education for students from Eastern, Northern and other parts of Uganda.

The institution, located in Otuboi Town Council, Kalakai District, is now offering additional programmes beyond health sciences through the newly established Bethlehem Institute of Management and Applied Sciences.

Speaking during a media briefing at the school's campus, the Academic Registrar in charge of Admissions and Academic Affairs, Mr Andrew Okao, said the institution had completed preparations for the new intake, with qualified lecturers, teaching facilities and learning materials already in place.

"We are fully prepared to receive students for the July and August intake. Our lecturers are available, our learning facilities are ready, and we remain committed to providing quality education that equips learners with practical and professional skills," Mr Okao said.

He called upon students from Teso, Lango, Kumam, Karamoja, Busoga and other regions who missed earlier admissions to take advantage of the ongoing intake.

According to Mr Okao, the school continues to offer health training programmes, including Certificate and Diploma courses in Nursing, Midwifery, Pharmacy and Medical Records.

He said the institution has also diversified its academic offerings through the Bethlehem Institute of Management and Applied Sciences, which is admitting students into programmes such as Public Administration, Information Technology, Building Construction, Electrical Installation, Fashion and Design, and other vocational and business-related courses.

"Our goal is to increase access to affordable higher education while producing graduates with the knowledge and practical skills needed in today's job market," he said.

Mr Okao noted that expanding the programmes will enable many students who previously travelled long distances to pursue higher education to study closer to their homes, thereby reducing accommodation and transport costs for families.

Under the admission guidelines, prospective students are required to obtain application forms at a non-refundable fee of Shs50,000. The institution has urged applicants to submit their applications before the admission window closes.

The expansion comes amid growing demand for tertiary education in Uganda, particularly in health sciences and technical fields, as government and private institutions seek to bridge the country's skills gap. Education stakeholders have consistently called for the establishment of more accredited training institutions outside major urban centres to improve access to quality education and support regional development.
