She Was Used and Dumped! Namugongo Priest Takes Aim at Anita Among Over Museveni-God and Muhoozi-Jesus Remarks

A Catholic priest at Namugongo Martyrs Shrine, Rev. Fr Charles Maria Kiberu, has criticised former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among over remarks attributed to her comparing President Yoweri Museveni to God the Father and Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba to Jesus Christ.

Kiberu made the remarks while celebrating Sunday Mass at Namugongo Martyrs Shrine on October 18, 2026, where he challenged Ugandans to distinguish between political loyalty and religious devotion.

Referring to Matthew 22:21 and Mark 12:17, the priest reminded believers of the biblical teaching to give Caesar what belongs to Caesar and God what belongs to God.

Turning his attention to Among, Kiberu questioned her current political position following the reported remarks. “Where is she now? She was used and dumped,” he said, questioning whether political loyalty guarantees lasting influence or protection.

The priest also challenged political leaders to consider whether Ugandans receive adequate public services in return for the taxes they pay, urging accountability in the management of public affairs.

He further criticised the pursuit of wealth and political power, warning against elevating powerful individuals above the values of faith and humility.

Kiberu also took aim at religious leaders whom he accused of placing excessive emphasis on collecting money from struggling believers. He urged clergy to prioritise the spiritual and social welfare of their congregations.

The priest concluded by praying for prisoners, including those he described as political prisoners, while condemning abductions and torture. He called on religious leaders to defend justice, human dignity and the rights of Ugandans rather than promote unquestioning loyalty to political power.
