Mixed Reactions As MP Obua is Declared sole candidate
Alebtong, Uganda There is mixed reactions among the supporters of the national Resistance Members in Ajuri Constituency as section of the supporters passed resolutions to declared the incumbent MP Denis Hamson Obua as a sole candidate a head of 2026 election.
Section of Voters and NRM of Ajuri County in Alebtong District have refuted claims that they have endorsed Denis Hamson Obua as the NRM party's sole candidate ahead of the 2026 parliamentary elections.
The residents, most of whom are NRM members, stated that the resolutions endorsing Obua as a sole candidate were made during a meeting convened by Obua himself. They emphasized that these resolutions do not represent the voice of the party members. According to the electorate, the information about Obua’s sole candidacy is propaganda crafted by his campaign team to disorganize and intimidate other individuals who have shown interest to challenge him in the upcoming elections.
“This kind of unfounded propaganda is likely targeting Steven Omara Anyeko, a youthful and result-oriented individual who is currently being warmly welcomed by the electorate to take up the mantle from Obua,” a voter from Ajuri Awei Sub-county explained.
A resident of Of Baropiro, who identified himself as Bonny Ogwang, told the publication that the meeting said to have endorsed Obua was a parallel gathering aimed at diverting people’s attention from efforts to identify a better candidate to represent Ajuri in the 12th Parliament.
“How can one come out to endorse a sole candidate when no one has even picked the interest forms for the NRM primaries yet?” Ogwang wondered.
Reacting to these claims, Steven Omara Anyeko, the only contender against Obua within the NRM, dismissed the events in Baropiro as untrue and irrelevant to NRM politics. He accused Obua, who is also the Government Chief Whip, of associating himself with every development in Ajuri, despite not being the one to bring them.
On the day of the meeting in Omoro, an official NRM meeting was convened by the district chairman, Owino Francis, at the Omoro Sub-county headquarters. Omara alleged that Obua intentionally avoided attending the official meeting. “Such behavior is precisely why we need a change in leadership,” Omara remarked.
Omara further stated, “It’s important to note that I will contest in the NRM primaries, and Obua, as an individual party member, has no right to stop me.”
Recently Local media reported that members of NRM in Ajuri constituency in Alebtong have passed a resolution to front Denis Hamson Obua as a sole candidate for Ajuri parliamentary seat a head of 2026.
"Hamson is a developer, under his leadership we have received four seed schools and Health centers among others and we can't afford to lose him at this material time" Alum told this publication.
Adams Ecoo, the NRM chairperson of Amugu sub county says the county is currently experiencing peace, security and stability because of the leadership of president Museveni and that he needs strong leaders like Obua to help him leadershipa reason both should not be subjected to any internal elections.
