Kyoga North MP Hopeful Okello G Rember Urges Lango Community to Shun Violence and Respect the Rule of Law

By Emmanuel Opeto

Amolatar, Uganda: Aspirant for the Kioga North parliamentary seat (2026–2031), Okello George Rember, has issued a timely and urgent call to action, urging the Lango community to shun violence and uphold the rule of law. This appeal comes amidst an alarming rise in domestic violence cases in the Kioga North constituency and the Lango region as a whole.

According to police the cases of murder relating to domestic violence in Lango are high.

The consequences of domestic violence are devastating, leading to loss of lives, fractured families, and long-term psychological trauma.

A study by the Women and Rural Development Networks has revealed a link between food insecurity and domestic violence, emphasizing the need for a multifaceted approach to address these interconnected issues.

The COVID-19 lockdown further exacerbated the problem, with reported cases of domestic violence increasing by 15% in the Lango region during this period. This highlights the urgent need for community-driven solutions to tackle the root causes of violence.

Okello George Rember's message is clear: taking the law into one's own hands is not the solution. Instead, he advocates for peaceful conflict resolution, support for victims of domestic violence, and the promotion of policies that protect the rights of all individuals. His call to action aligns with broader efforts to foster unity and resilience within the Lango community.

As the region continues to recover from the effects of past conflicts and socio-economic challenges, leaders like Okello George Rember play a crucial role in guiding the community toward a future of peace, justice, and prosperity.
