Church News : Nebbi Full Gospel Churches Sets Date for Consecration of New Bishop

The Full Gospel Churches of Uganda, Nebbi Region, has set 29th July 2026 as the date for the consecration of their newly elected Bishop, Rev. Benson Japyem.

The Nebbi Region comprises 91 churches drawn from Paidha and Nebbi, clustered under 12 zones.

Addressing a press conference at Leosim Motel in Nebbi Municipality last weekend, organisers of the event said they expect nearly 10,000 people to attend the consecration, which will take place at Acres of Hope School ground in Nebbi Municipality.

Patrick Kumakech, chairperson of the central organising committee, rallied residents from Nebbi, Zombo, Pakwach, and other parts of the West Nile sub-region to attend and witness the historic occasion.

“Your coming will be of great help and support to us as we witness this great occasion in our church history,” he said.

Pastor Hudson Kermundu, one of the pastors in the Full Gospel Church, called for inter-denominational support for the event. He also appealed to political leaders and other stakeholders for assistance.

“If God has communicated to you to help, you are very welcome through our provided numbers,” Pastor Kermundu noted.

Bishop-elect Rev. Benson Japyem was elected in September last year. He will become the fifth Bishop of the Full Gospel Churches of Uganda Nebbi Region since the denomination was introduced in the Greater Nebbi sub-region in 1970. He succeeds Bishop Charles Opio.

The Full Gospel Churches of Uganda was introduced in the country in the 1960s and currently operates in 40 regions with 40 Regional Overseers, 2,300 churches, and 3,000 pastors. 

The denomination has invested in the education and development of its members through 32 schools, 2 health facilities, 30 Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA), and 32 Child Development Centres.

The denomination operates under the core mission “To Evangelize Communities, Systematically and Holistically Discipling Believers to Maturity Through the enablement of the Holy Spirit in Christ,” as detailed in Paul’s letter to the Colossians (Col 1:28).
