BIG HEARTED! Fountainhead Mgt& Technology, Lira Offers 120 Scholarships To Students 

Fountainhead Institute of Management and Technology (FIMAT) in Amuca, Lira City has secured 120 scholarships from a partner organization to support in-service training programs at the private institution.

According to the Chief Executive Officer, Tom Okao, the scholarships cover several practical vocational programs including woodwork, electrical installation, plumbing, fashion design, mechanical engineering, solar technology, and welding. Each program will admit 20 learners, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 120.

Okao emphasized that the opportunities are open to everyone regardless of academic background.

“Everything has been paid for, and each program needs 20 students,” he said, adding that studies will begin in January after the admission process.

FIMAT was established in 2006 and formally licensed by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) in 2012 under License No. TI.PL 0053. It was later classified in 2018. Its mission is “to provide quality tertiary education with a practical orientation that targets problem-solving and community empowerment for sustainable development.”

Meanwhile, 817 students currently enrolled in various programs at the institution are sitting for their end-of-year examinations.

Okao reiterated his long-term vision of transforming FIMAT into a premier center for engineering and technical excellence.

“If engineers are called for a meeting in Asia or Europe, our engineers are often not considered. We cannot fabricate even the handle of a hoe to the standard admired globally,” he noted.

“Sometimes what is fabricated in Katwe cannot cross to Kenya because of poor quality and standards. Ugandans know how to start something but often lack the skills to finish it well.”

He said FIMAT is focused on addressing these gaps and aims to produce highly competent graduates capable of meeting international standards.

“FIMAT has a big vision and many goals to achieve. A lot is going to come out of this institution in the years ahead,” he added.
