Beyond Acedmic Perfomance; Acaba Sec School Shines In USSSA District Sports Competition

Lira, Uganda : Good news from the district of Oyam! Acaba Secondary School in Oyam North is gearing up to make a significant mark in the upcoming regional post-primary games, set to take place at Ngai Secondary School next month. The school is prioritizing sports development and is confident of emerging as a champion in the regional competition.

In the recent district football tournament, Acaba Secondary School demonstrated outstanding performance by producing two teams — one boys' team and one girls' team — both of which qualified for the regional meet. This achievement highlights the school's commitment to nurturing sporting talents and promoting healthy competition among students.

Speaking exclusively to The Luo Native, Northern Uganda’s popular online publication, Mr. Simon Okeng, the school’s Headteacher, expressed his optimism:  

"As a school, we invest heavily in sports every year. Our goal is to win the regional trophy and bring it home. We believe that sports play a vital role in the holistic development of our students."

He further explained that the school actively supports talented sports students by offering scholarships and has invested in improving sports facilities. 

The school’s sports program is complemented by a robust academic record. 

Acaba Secondary School has consistently excelled in national examinations, including UCE (Uganda Certificate of Education) and UACE (Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education). Notably, all students who sat for UACE  2025 successfully passed and qualified for university admission, reflecting the school’s commitment to academic excellence.

Under the current leadership of Mr. Okeng, Acaba S.S. has also seen an increase in student enrollment and academic performance. The school is now recognized as one of the leading institutions in the district, not only for its sporting achievements but also for its academic standards.

As the regional games approach, the entire Acaba community remains optimistic and prepared to showcase their talents, both on the field and in the classroom. The school’s dual focus on sports and academics continues to foster a conducive environment for student growth and achievement.
