Oyam, Uganda – Excitement is building across Northern Uganda as preparations are finalized for the enthronement of Prof. Willy Okullu as the new clan chief of Arak Okwero Yito in Oyam District.

Prof. Okullu, son of the late Ben Ogwang Ocho—a respected figure and a close ally of President Museveni—is stepping into a leadership role that honors his father’s legacy.

The late Ogwang played a pivotal role in the development of Lango and was among the few Lango leaders, including former State Minister Sam Engola, who stood with Museveni’s administration at a time when resistance to his leadership was strong in the region.

Prof. Okullu’s coronation underscores his family’s ongoing commitment to cultural preservation and regional development.

The highly anticipated event will take place on May 3, 2025, in Kut Odingo Village, Amugugungu Parish, Otwal Subcounty, Oyam District. Organizers have confirmed that all arrangements are in place for a successful celebration, with thousands expected to attend including cultural leaders from other regions.

Beyond his new role as clan chief, Prof. Okullu serves as the Prime Minister of the Lango Cultural Institution—a position that further cements his influence in cultural and governance matters.

His coronation will be graced by Engineer Dr. Micheal Odongo Okune, the Paramount Chief of Tekwaro in the presence of Lango clan leaders, where Prof. Okullu serves as the prime minister.

Additionally, Prof. Okullu is married to a proud woman from the Otikokin clan, Susan Okullu further strengthening his ties within Lango’s cultural landscape.

Who is Professor Willy Okullu?

While little is publicly known about his personal history, Prof. Okullu has been identified as a lecturer at Kyambogo University, where he plays an active role in academia. His contributions extend beyond education into the broader development of the Lango region, reinforcing his commitment to leadership and progress.

His enthronement is not just a ceremonial event but a moment of unity, legacy, and cultural affirmation for the people of Lango.
