Dokolo, Uganda: Rev. Sam Omait, the director of Adwoki Technical School in Dokolo District, has called upon members of press associations in the Lango sub-region to uphold ethical journalism as a tool for development.

Omait, who is also one of the media administrators in Lango, stressed the importance of promoting professional journalism that fosters community growth. Speaking to a large gathering of journalists under their respective associations, he urged them to embrace integrity, objectivity, and responsible reporting.

He further encouraged journalists to actively participate in savings and credit cooperative organizations (SACCOS) to enhance their financial security and improve household incomes. Additionally, Omait cautioned against detrimental practices such as biased reporting, excessive alcohol consumption, and inciting violence, emphasizing the need for the press to maintain high moral standards.

In support of Omait’s remarks, Stephen Opio, chairperson of the Dokolo Journalist Development Association, underscored the group's commitment to strengthening journalistic professionalism and social welfare. He highlighted ongoing initiatives, including income-generating ventures such as savings schemes, poultry farming, and agriculture, aimed at improving journalists' livelihoods.

The association, founded in 2020, now boasts 27 fully registered members and continues to advocate for journalists' rights, welfare, and capacity-building efforts to ensure a more resilient and ethical press community in the region.
